The inaugural 20/20 finals day of the Wigan Cricket Development Group (WCDG) competition comes to Leigh’s Beech Walk ground on Sunday 5 July with top teams from around the area competing to be district champions in this hugely popular competition.
Tim McKiernan from WCDG said:” I’m delighted that this has been such a popular showcase for cricketing talent in the area. Sunday will be a great day for all involved and I’m sure it will be exciting for spectators too. I would urge anyone interested in cricket to come to Leigh on Sunday and see the district’s best cricketers in action. We’re hoping there will be a real carnival atmosphere”
The hugely popular short form of the game is played in coloured clothing with pink cricket balls and is sure to prove a spectacle of big hitting and exciting cricket and there will be fun for all the family with fairground rides, music, a hog roast, BBQ and full bar all day. Admission is free.
The day will consist of three games, two semi-finals from 10:30am and the day’s showpiece grand final starting at 5pm.
Prior to that, Leigh will be completing their group games during this week in a bid to reach the finals day.
On Tuesday we travel to Highfield and finish up on Friday (6.15PM) at home to Golborne. Once again, junior training is cancelled due to this fixture.
